WHAT DO QMS AND EMS MEAN

The ISO standards control and management systems for enterprises, QMS and EMS, are both document-driven. A quality management system or QMS is also referred to as ISO 9001:2015. Environmental Management System or EMS for short, is also known as ISO 14001:2015.

The fact that both systems are standards-based and have a similar objective makes them similar in some ways. Both are governed by the International Standards Organization and employ comparable documentation practices. Both call for thorough record-keeping. Along with ongoing training, they also call for regular review.

The comparison of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015
ISO 9001:2015 QMS:

  • Customer-driven
  • Procedures that are more documented
  • Defining standards
  • Manuals are required

ISO 14001:2015 EMS

  • Environmentally driven
  • Procedures that are less documented
  • No defined standards
  • There is no quality manual
