Recognizing the presence of a hazard is the process of hazard identification. A source or situation that has the potential to result in human injury or illness is referred to as a hazard.
Risk assessment is the process of analyzing the risk that a threat poses. The likelihood of a dangerous event, or exposure, and the severity of the injury, or bad health, that the event or exposure can create, can be combined to describe risk.
The activities that can be performed to eliminate or reduce risk to a manageable level are identified as appropriate controls. These measures are chosen using a control hierarchy. Constant improvement and regulatory compliance are the two main pillars on which the OH&S management system is founded.
