The most recent edition of this standard is ISO 9001:2015, and it should be a cornerstone of any organization. There are other standards in the ISO 9000 family (which address quality management), but only ISO 9001 allows for certification.

There are numerous examples based on this standard that are industry-specific Although the business processes and procedures will be housed in some sort of system, frequently referred to as a Quality Management System (QMS), the standard is intended to:

Make sure the goods and services delivered adhere to the specifications.
Establish a system to track the efficiency of the quality management system, its results, and the procedures and processes used to stop the flow of non-conforming goods and services.

Make sure that senior management, stakeholders, and the management system's operations all have clearly defined roles and duties, and that everyone is responsible for the results.
